What are immediate dentures?
An immediate denture is a temporary denture that can be fitted on the day your teeth come out, so you don’t leave without teeth.
We take your records and make the denture before your extractions. Your dentist removes your teeth, and the denture can go in the same day. You wear it for 12 to 16 weeks while your gums heal.
Your gums change a lot while they heal, so we refit and adjust the denture along the way. Once you’ve healed, we make your final conventional premium denture, or an implant-retained denture if you’re having implants.
What an immediate denture does for you
- No gap: you have teeth from the day of your extractions.
- Protection while you heal: the denture covers your gums while they settle.
- Eating and speech: you can keep eating and talking while you wait for your final denture.
- Care through healing: We see you through the whole healing period, not only on fitting day.

Been told your teeth need to come out?
Many of the people we see for immediate dentures have avoided the dentist for a long time. Their teeth have become badly compromised, and they’ve finally found the courage to see someone.
If that’s you, you won’t get a lecture here. Have you struggled to find someone who’ll take the time and understand what you’re going through? We explain each step before it happens and stay with you through healing and beyond. An immediate denture may suit you if:
- Your dentist has recommended extractions: some or all of your remaining teeth need to come out.
- You don’t want to go without teeth: you’d rather not wait months for your gums to heal with no denture.
- You’re planning implants later: an immediate denture sees you through the healing before implants go in.
Talk to us before your extractions
Some people come to us before they see a dentist, because they want a denture opinion before they commit. We can’t diagnose. We can look at your situation, explain what result to expect from a denture if certain teeth come out, and refer you to a dentist to confirm the plan.
You can choose who makes your denture
You don’t have to have your dentist make your denture. A dedicated denture prosthetist can make it while working closely with your dentist, who looks after the extractions and the rest of your dental care. We do nothing but dentures, all day, every day.
What types of immediate dentures are available?
The immediate denture is the temporary stage. What you choose is the final denture that follows it.

Immediate to conventional premium
You wear your immediate denture while your gums heal, then we make your conventional premium denture on your healed gums.
- Timeline: 12 to 16 weeks of healing before your final denture.
- Best for: most people having their teeth out.

Immediate to implant-retained
You wear your immediate denture while your gums heal and your dentist places implants, then we make a final denture that clips onto them.
- Timeline: about 12 weeks of healing, implants placed, then about six more weeks.
- Best for: people who want a secure, stable lower denture in particular.
Your journey, step by step
Denture Pros is with you for your whole healing journey.
This is where your dentist hands over to your prosthetist, so we coordinate with your dentist from the start and you aren’t left managing two clinics on your own.
- Your situation: We ask what brought you in and explain each step ahead.
- Records: we take impressions and bite records before your teeth come out.
- Coordination: we line up the timing with your dentist.
Your dentist removes your teeth. Your immediate denture can be fitted the same day.
- Refits: We refit the denture as your gums shrink and change shape.
- Adjustments: we ease sore spots as they come up.
- Support: you can call or text any time something doesn’t feel right.
If you’re having implants, your dentist places them after about 12 weeks of healing, followed by about six more weeks.
We make your final conventional premium denture, or an implant-retained denture if you’ve had implants, following the same impressions, bite records and try-in as any new denture.
Read about full denturesHow much do immediate dentures cost?
The cost depends on how many teeth are coming out, and on the final denture you choose after healing.
Every case is different, so we discuss cost after you’ve booked and we’ve seen what your treatment involves.
What affects the cost
- Full or partial: whether the immediate denture replaces a full arch or some teeth.
- Number of arches: an upper, a lower, or both.
- Your final denture: conventional premium or implant-retained.
- Extras: such as a soft liner during healing.
Ways to pay
We’re upfront about cost once we’ve seen you, and there are a few ways to manage it:
- Health funds: we accept all major health funds and claim on the spot with HICAPS, so you only pay the gap.
- MediPay payment plans: spread the cost over instalments, so you can go ahead with the right treatment rather than a compromise.
We accept all health funds
We work with all major health insurance providers, so you can claim toward your treatment on the spot with HICAPS.
